Undergraduate Research Assistant

I’m a junior in the mechanical engineering program. Although I’m studying engineering, I’ve always loved coding and have spent hundreds of hours working on personal projects. I released a mobile game on the App and Google Play stores and worked on an array of other projects ranging from games to small simulations. As I’ve studied mechanical engineering, I’ve thought a lot about what I want to do for a career. I realized that I want to find a career where I can write code while also solving difficult engineering problems. My search for this career led me to discover the field of modeling, simulation, and computational engineering. Since discovering that field of engineering, I started a research position in the bioheat lab where I run high-fidelity simulations and use them to evaluate different models for calculating thermal diffusivity. I hope to pursue a PhD in computational science and engineering and will be applying to graduate programs this fall. Some of my favorite classes at BYU have been thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and numerical methods.
