I am a Senior in the mechanical engineering department at BYU and have been working in the Bioheat transfer lab since June 2023. Throughout my time here, I have designed and carried out a few experiments to explore how to cool the skull more effectively during MRI guided focused ultrasound thalamotomies. Current treatments can damage skull and brain tissue due to high temperatures at the skull-brain interface. We hope to develop new ways to mitigate that risk.
I have always had an interest in both engineering and the medical field, and as such have loved my time working in the lab. After graduating BYU, I plan to either attend graduate school and/or pursue a career in the medical device industry.
